Detailed review: Easy setup, solid results

I recently signed up for the Compress API annual plan. The ordering process on the website was quite simple, and I received my license key almost immediately via email. Integrating the API with my WordPress site using their plugin was surprisingly easy; the documentation was clear. I opted for lossy compression, and the quality difference is barely noticeable while the file sizes are significantly reduced. The dashboard shows credit usage clearly, which is helpful for budgeting. I also ran a Site Speed Audit after optimization, and the results confirmed the improvements. One small thing, I wish the support chat was 24/7, but they did get back to me within a reasonable timeframe when I had a question about WebP conversion. Overall, it's a robust solution for image optimization.

Saved money on credits

I was looking for an affordable way to optimize images for my blog and decided to try EWWW. I bought a bulk credits package during a sale. The process was easy, and the credits were applied right away. My images are smaller now, and my site loads faster, which is exactly what I needed. It felt like good value for the price I paid.

Good optimization, slight billing confusion

I purchased the Unlimited Image Compression plan for a new site last month. The image optimization worked really well; my page load times definitely saw an improvement. Installation was straightforward for the WordPress plugin. However, when I first signed up, the annual billing option wasn't as clear as it could be, and I had to double-check my cart to make sure I got the yearly discount. Customer support was quick to respond when I messaged them about it though, so that was good. Overall, a solid service, just a minor hiccup in the checkout flow.

Consistent performance for years

I've been using EWWW Image Optimizer for several years now across various projects. My latest purchase was an upgrade to an Agency Plan. As always, setup was seamless, and the performance is reliable. It's the consistency that keeps me coming back; I know what to expect. The integration with WordPress is still top-notch, and my sites load quickly without me having to think much about image sizes. They've maintained their quality over time.

I'm just starting out, is there a free way to try out the image optimization before committing to a paid plan?

B Barbara Hernandez 1 month ago
They have a free version of the WordPress plugin, which is a good way to see how it generally works, though it might have some limitations compared to the paid API.

A Alex Lewis 1 month ago
Yeah, you can download the EWWW Image Optimizer plugin from the WordPress repo for free. It's a bit more basic than the full service, but it'll give you a taste of what it does.

Looking at EWWW vs Imagify for an upcoming project. Anyone got experience with both and can say which is better for speed?

M Michelle R. 2 weeks ago
I've used both. EWWW felt a bit more hands-on and gave me more control, which I liked. Imagify was simpler but maybe less customizable. Both get the job done for speed though.

E Emma Turner 2 weeks ago
For pure speed, EWWW is really good, especially with all its options like WebP conversion and lazy load. Imagify is decent, but I found EWWW to be a bit more robust overall, especially with larger sites.

If I get the annual plan for the API, can I cancel it any time? Or am I locked in for the whole year even if I stop using it?

O Olivia Campbell 3 weeks ago
You can cancel whenever, but for annual plans, you usually don't get a refund for the unused portion, if that makes sense. Your service just runs till the end of the year you already paid for.

M Matt Walker 3 weeks ago
Pretty sure you're locked in for the year you paid for. It's like, you prepay for 12 months of service. So if you cancel in month 3, you still have 9 more months of service, but no money back.

Does anyone know if they do special pricing or an agency plan for people managing multiple client sites? The regular pricing seems a bit much if I'm adding a bunch of sites.

D David Johnson 1 month ago
They totally have an agency plan! It's designed for exactly that, if I recall correctly. Gives you more flexibility and, I assume, better rates.

A Anthony M. 1 month ago
Yeah, check out their agency plan promo. It's specifically for multiple sites and probably offers bulk pricing that works out cheaper than individual subscriptions.

is ewww image optimizer actually legit? seen a few alternatives around but this one seems to pop up a lot.

J Justin P. 1 month ago
Yeah, it's legit. Been using it for years on a couple of client sites. Big difference in load times for sure.

P Patricia Davis 1 month ago
Definitely legit. It's one of the older, more established ones in the WordPress space. Works well, and their support has been helpful when I've had questions.

Does EWWW work with any payment methods besides just credit cards? Like PayPal or something?

B Barbara Gomez 3 weeks ago
Pretty sure it's mostly card payments for subscriptions, that's what I use anyway. Don't recall seeing PayPal as an option myself.
6
M Michael J. 3 weeks ago
I pay with my debit card, which acts like a credit card for online stuff. Haven't seen PayPal, but honestly, most online services are credit card focused now.

What's the deal with image optimization credits? How do those work exactly? Do they expire?

M Michelle S. 1 week ago
Credits are basically for the Compress API if you're not on an unlimited plan. Each image optimization uses a credit. I don't think they expire if you have an active account, but don't quote me on that.
2
E Emma 1 week ago
They're for when you don't have an 'unlimited' plan, so each optimization costs a credit. As far as expiring, I think they generally roll over if you keep your subscription, but you should probably check their docs just to be sure.
